Omaha - The University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) Art Gallery presents "UNO and Beyond: Art Student Alumni Exhibition." The show will run Sunday, Oct. 12, through Friday, Nov. 7, with an opening reception on Sunday, Oct. 12, from 1 to 5 p.m. The event is being held in conjunction with the University’s Centennial celebration, which begins Wednesday, Oct. 8.
The exhibition includes works by over 50 UNO alumni who graduated with Fine Art degrees from 1963 – 2008. The show includes works in a variety of mediums and styles including a piece from the O! Public Art Project by alumnus Bart Vargas.
The Alumni Exhibition will also feature a collection of works by UNO alumna Margaret Krug, painter and senior lecturer at The Whitney Museum of American Art in New York City. Krug will receive the Department of Art and Art History Distinguished Alumni Award. The award will be presented at an artist lecture and signing for Krug’s book An Artist’s Handbook: Materials and Techniques which will be held in the UNO Art Gallery on Thursday, Oct., 16 at 7 p.m.
UNO will celebrate its 100th anniversary beginning October 8, 2008. This celebration will recognize the partnership among the City of Omaha, its citizens and UNO to build a vibrant and dynamic community. The centennial theme is “UNO: Central To Our City Since 1908.” This theme acknowledges the past contributions of UNO to the community and sets the stage for great things to come.
UNO, inaugurated in 1968, emerged from the Municipal University of Omaha, established in 1931, which grew out of the University of Omaha founded in 1908. For Centennial information, go to http://www.unomaha.edu/100/.
