Gun Debate Slated for Sept. 17 at UNO
Omaha - A debate about guns on college campuses will take place Wednesday, Sept. 17 at UNO. The 1 p.m. event will be held in the Milo Bail Student Center Ballroom and is part of Constitution Week activities at UNO.
The debate will feature Scott Lewis, a senior advisor for a national organization lobbying to get concealed carry permits legalized on college campuses, and Arturo Romano, a national and internationally recognized peace worker.
Co-hosts of the event include the American Democracy Project and Democracy Matters: Building Social Capital Through Public Dialogue, a new series of community forums, debates and guest lectures at UNO.
Additional event sponsors include: College of Public Affairs and Community Service; Department of Political Science; Office of Academic and Student Affairs; Dual Enrollment Program; and the Association for the Study of Free Institutions.
UNO will celebrate its 100th anniversary beginning October 8, 2008. This celebration will recognize the partnership among the City of Omaha, its citizens and UNO to build a vibrant and dynamic community. The centennial theme is “UNO: Central To Our City Since 1908.” This theme acknowledges the past contributions of UNO to the community and sets the stage for great things to come.
UNO, inaugurated in 1968, emerged from the Municipal University of Omaha, established in 1931, which grew out of the University of Omaha founded in 1908. For Centennial information, go to http://www.unomaha.edu/100/.
