Annual UNO Honors Recital April 15

Omaha - In conjunction with Honors Month, the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) Department of Music will host its fourth annual UNO Honors Recital Tuesday, April 15. The event will be held in the Strauss Performing Arts Center Recital Hall beginning at 7:30 p.m. Admission is free and open to the public.

"The UNO Department of Music is proud to honor these talented young musician-scholars during Honors Month and applauds them for their outstanding achievement in music performance and academic excellence," said Christine Beard, assistant professor of flute and coordinator of woodwind studies at UNO.

The UNO Honors Recital was established in 2005 to recognize talented UNO student musicians who excel on the concert stage and in the classroom. To be eligible for this honor, students must possess a cumulative 3.0 G.P.A. or higher and audition for a panel comprised of UNO music faculty. The best of those performances are selected to perform at the recital.

The following students will be showcased at this year's event: Matt Baldwin, bassoon; Nathan Green, piano; Anna Hall, flute; Jaymeson Pon, piano; Megumi Tanokura, cello; and Zoe Verboon, piano.

For more information, contact Beard at (402) 554-2685.

UNO will celebrate its 100th anniversary beginning Oct. 8, 2008. This celebration will recognize the partnership among the city of Omaha, its citizens and UNO to build a vibrant and dynamic community. The centennial theme is "UNO: Central To Our City Since 1908." This theme acknowledges the past contributions of UNO to the community and sets the stage for great things to come.

UNO, inaugurated in 1968, emerged from the Municipal University of Omaha, established in 1931, which grew out of the University of Omaha founded in 1908. For Centennial information, go to http://www.unomaha.edu/100/.
