KIOS, UNO Faculty, Staff and Student Honored

Omaha - KIOS (91.5 FM) is the recipient of the 20th Annual Andy Award. Presented annually by International Studies and Programs at UNO, the award recognizes a member or members of the Nebraska news media whose coverage best enhances the international awareness of Nebraskans.

Keith Neisler, station manager, accepted the award on behalf of KIOS. The award includes a cash prize of $1,000.

In addition to the Andy Award recipients, winners of the 2008 Andersen-Gouttierre Awards were announced. The Andersen-Gouttierre Endowment funds the Andy Award and the Andersen-Gouttierre Awards. These awards recognize the contributions of International Studies faculty, an IS&P staff member and students at UNO in enhancing the international awareness of Nebraskans. They are also accompanied by a cash award.

The 2008 Andersen-Gouttierre Award recipients are as follows:

Faculty Award: Deepak Khazanchi, associate dean for Academic Affairs and professor of Information Systems & Quantitative Analysis in the College of Information Science and Technology;

IS&P Staff Award: Abdul Raheem Yaseer, assistant director of the Center for Afghanistan Studies;

Student Award: Khalid Alamri, native of Saudi Arabia and president of the Saudi Student Club.

The Andy Award is named in honor of Harold Andersen, former chairman and chief executive officer of the Omaha World-Herald. The cash awards are made possible by a gift from Andersen and his wife, Marian, to International Studies and Programs at UNO.

The recipients were honored at a Feb. 7 dinner at the Milo Bail Student Center. Harold Andersen presented the awards.
