UNO Child Care Earns NAEYC Accreditation
Omaha - The University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) Child Care Center has earned accreditation by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).
"We are one of the first programs in the country to earn the mark of quality represented by the reinvented NAEYC Accreditation system," said Dawn Hove, director of the center. "The UNO Child Care Center continues to maintain the highest quality care and education for the families we serve."
Since its doors opened in 1986, the UNO Child Care Center has offered early childhood education programming for children - age 18 months to 5 years during the academic year; and until 12 years during the summer - of students, faculty, staff and alumni.
"We're not a daycare anymore. Today we offer an early childhood educational program," Hove said. "Educating the university's youngest students is our ultimate goal."
All staff members have training and experience in working with children. Lead teachers have either an associate or a bachelor's degree and assistants have at least two years' experience working with children. Student workers, who are often students majoring in education, serve as teacher's aides.
"The staff worked very hard and are very excited about this achievement. Please help me congratulate them," Hove said.
