Ecoutez! Continues Oct. 25 with Male Vocal Ensemble Cantus
Omaha - The 2007-08 Ecoutez! Series at the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) continues Thursday, Oct. 25, with a performance by the male vocal ensemble Cantus. The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Strauss Performing Arts Center Recital Hall on the UNO campus.
Tickets cost $15 and will be available at the door. All students are admitted free of charge with identification. The doors will open 30 minutes prior to the concert.
"Ecoutez! is committed to bringing the highest caliber of established performers and emerging artists to the metropolitan area," said Roger Foltz, a professor of music at UNO and coordinator of the series. The word "ecoutez" is French for "listen." KVNO Classical 90.7 FM is the media sponsor for the series.
Cantus has performed a coast-to-coast U.S. tour, including debut performances in New York City; Hartford, Conn.; Minneapolis and Saint Paul, Minn., and San Francisco. Their repertoire spans many periods and genres, including Gregorian chant, Renaissance motets, contemporary sacred works, art songs, folk music, spirituals, jazz standards and pop.
The ensemble's members are frequent clinicians at festivals, high schools and colleges across the country. Cantus has four CDs on Cantus Recordings, including their latest recording, "Let Your Voice Be Heard" (2001), a collection of music from cultures around the world.
