UNO Gallery, Theatre Present Evening of ART Oct. 19

Omaha - The UNO Art Gallery and UNO Theatre will join forces Friday, Oct. 19 to present one remarkable evening of art.

ART—The Gallery
Begin the evening at 6:30 p.m. at the UNO Art Gallery for the opening reception of Clay as the Human Condition, a regional ceramics exhibition curated by Alisa Holen, a visiting assistant professor in ceramics at the University of Iowa School of Art and Art History. This exhibition explores three different clay artists (Daniel Cox, Conifer Smith and Reagan Yoder) and how they react to life and its challenges, through the resilient and tactile medium of clay. The opening reception is from 6:30-8:30 p.m. and is free and open to the public.

ART—The Play
At 7:30 p.m. attend UNO Theatre’s opening production Art, by Yasmina Reza, directed by Dr. Cindy Melby Phaneuf. Winner of the 1998 Tony Award for Best Play, Art is a dazzling comedy that deals with questions of male friendship, intellectual honesty and, of course, what is or isn’t art. This witty, smash hit will delight and entertain you, while challenging your artistic sensibilities. An interactive discussion with the director, designers, cast and theatre and art faculty will follow the performance.

Performances of Art run October 12-13 and 17-20. All performances are held at the UNO Theater in the Weber Fine Arts Building, 6001 Dodge St. The house opens at 7 p.m. with a 7:30 p.m. curtain for all evening performances. Tickets are available through the box office, located on the first floor of the Weber Fine Arts Building. Ticket prices are $15 for general admission; $12 for students and seniors. They may be purchased in person, via e-mail at unoboxoffice@mail.unomaha.edu, or by calling 554-2335. For more information call (402) 554-2406.

The UNO Art Gallery is located on the first floor of the Weber Fine Arts Building.  Clay as the Human Condition will be on view through Saturday, Nov. 17.  All exhibitions are free, handicapped accessible and open to the public. Gallery hours are Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday noon to 4 p.m.; Thursday noon to 8 p.m.; and Saturday 1 to 4 p.m. For further information about the UNO Art Gallery, call (402) 554-2796.
