Gouttierre to Participate in Academic Symposium Oct. 6-13
Omaha - The University of St. Thomas in Minnesota will welcome Tom Gouttierre, dean of international studies and programs and director of the Center for Afghanistan Studies at the University of Nebraska at Omaha, as part of the Václav Havel Civil Society Symposium.
Gouttierre will participate in a number of classes, seminars and programs while visiting the university in Saint Paul Oct. 6-13 as a Václav Havel Civil Society scholar.
The Václav Havel Civil Society Symposium was established in 1999 to encourage discussion on the rights and responsibilities of citizens. The biennial symposium brought noted speakers such as former U.S. Secretary of State Madeleine Albright and Havel, who was the last president of Czechoslovakia and the first president of the Czech Republic.
Gouttierre is the third participant in the program’s history.
Under the new program, prominent scholars and leaders visit Minnesota for more extended periods. Martin Palous, the Czech Republic’s ambassador to the United Nations, visited the Twin Cities for a week last fall under the program.
Visit www.stthomas.edu for a complete listing of Gouttierre’s activities while at the University of St. Thomas.
