UNO Child Care Center to Host Alex's Lemonade Stand Fundraiser
Omaha - Inspired by one child - Alex Scott - volunteers from the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) Child Care Center's Transition Class will host a service-learning fundraiser event to benefit children with cancer. Alex's Lemonade Stand will be held Friday, July 13, from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the Child Care Center Parking Lot (Lot H).
"Each year, more than 14,000 kids are diagnosed with some form of cancer, but research into treatment for cancer in kids is still limited," said Dawn Hove, manager of the Child Care Center. "We hope the UNO community will join us in raising awareness and monetary support for this cause."
Faculty, staff and students are invited to enjoy some lemonade at the stand. Free will donations will be accepted. All donations will go to the Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation.
Alex's Lemonade Stand was founded by a young cancer patient, Alexandra "Alex" Scott. For four years, despite her deteriorating health, she held an annual lemonade stand to raise money for childhood cancer research.
Following her inspirational example, thousands of lemonade stands have been held across the country by children, schools, businesses and organizations, all to benefit the Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation. Today, her national campaign has raised more than $ 6 million for pediatric cancer research. Scott passed away in August 2004. Her family remains committed to continuing with her legacy through her foundation, Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation until a cure for all childhood cancers is found.
