UNO PRSSA Honored for Raising Organ Donation Awareness

Omaha - An April “Lunch for Life” event that promoted organ donation at the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) has received a national third place award from the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA).  The award will be given at the national PRSSA conference in Philadelphia on Monday, Oct. 22.

“This was a great event that made a difference in getting people to consider organ donation,” said Jeremy Lipschultz, director of the UNO School of Communication.  “The students gave away 220 sack lunches on campus and signed up 35 people to be organ donors.  That’s a great return on investment.”

Students Heather Mead Garrett and Theresa Thiel led the effort. Karen Weber serves as the UNO PRSSA advisor.  Rowan University sponsored the 2007 National Organ Donor Awareness Competition. 

The UNO chapter of PRSSA is an active organization on campus and in the community. Its mission is to enhance knowledge in the field of public relations by networking locally and nationally.
