UNO to Host Lewis and Clark Students for Four Days
Omaha - The University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) College of Education (COE), in collaboration with UNO faculty, staff and students from across the campus, is hosting a portion of Lewis and Clark Middle School’s summer school program.
The middle school students will be on campus Tuesday through Friday, June 19-22. Students will participate in a variety of activities designed to increase their awareness of post-secondary education, motivate them to make the educational choices now that will prepare them for the future and familiarize them with the UNO community. Some of the numerous activities will include:
* Working with robotics;
* Visiting the UNO biomechanics lab;
* Hearing speakers talk about getting ready for college; and
* Exploring the recently renovated Dr. C.C. and Mabel L.Criss Library.
More than 50 UNO faculty, staff and students will be interacting with the approximately 60 Lewis and Clark students and teachers during the four-day period. The event culminates with a graduation commencement event–complete with caps and gowns--on Friday, June 22.
“It is a privilege to have these young scholars and their teachers on our campus. The name of the project, ‘An Excellent Connection!,’ truly says it all,” said Connie Schaffer, coordinator in the COE Office of Student Services. “This is a chance for us to connect with the middle school staff, students and our colleagues across campus. More importantly, it allows young people to connect the choices they make today to future educational opportunities.”
This is the second year of this collaborative effort. For more information, contact Schaffer at 554-3096 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
