Six UNO Organizations to Take Part in Peace and Justice Expo
Omaha - Six University of Nebraska at Omaha organizations will be taking part in the third Omaha Peace and Justice Expo on Sunday, April 15. The event will take place from 1 to 5:30 p.m. in the UNO Milo Bail Student Center and will involve more than 50 organizations.
Organizers recently announced that Voces, a dramatic presentation, will be performed at 4 p.m. The presentation, directed by Sheila Rocha, tells the untold stories of courage and perseverance that makes the Americas a rich amalgam of human “voices.” The show is touring the Omaha area thanks to a grant from the Nebraska Arts Council and the support of the Omaha Theater Company.
The keynote presenter for the expo is nationally known anti-war activist Cindy Sheehan. Sheehan’s son, Army Specialist Casey A. Sheehan, was killed in action in Iraq. In August of 2005, Sheehan protested outside of President Bush’s home in Crawford, Texas, and demanded an audience with the president. Her address will start at 2 p.m.
The six UNO organizations taking part in events are Americans for Informed Democracy–UNO Chapter, Feminist Majority Leadership Alliance, Nebraskans for Peace UNO, the UNO Student Social Work Organization and United Christian Ministries in Higher Education.
