Registration Under Way for Ninth Annual Maverick Stampede
Omaha - The University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) will host the ninth annual Whole Foods Market Maverick Stampede Sunday, April 22. The 8K run and 4K run/walk will begin at 9 a.m. at Chili Greens Golf Course, 6808 Spring St.
The race was founded by John Noble, associate professor in the UNO School of Health, Physical Education and Recreation (HPER). Each year since 1999, the "Organization and Administration of Physical Education" class at UNO has used the Maverick Stampede as an opportunity to gain hands-on organizational skills while promoting fitness and physical activity in the community.
New this year, a 1K Kids Fun Run for children ages 12 and under will follow the main races. The fun run start time is set for 10:15 a.m.
The entry fee for the 8K run and 4K run/walk is $18 for faculty/staff and the public, and $15 for UNO students. The cost for the 1KKids Fun Run is $12. Individuals may register online at http://www.unomaha.edu/stampede. Registration brochures also are available in 100 HPER Building.
Participants who register prior to the Tuesday, April 10, early registration deadline will receive a free long-sleeved T-shirt.
Awards will be presented to the top three male and female finishers in designated age groups in the 8K and 4K runs. Whole Foods Market will provide free snacks following the race, and door prizes will be awarded.
