NASA Nebraska Space Grant Consortium Receives Grant
Omaha - NASA's Exploration Systems Mission Directorate (ESMD) has selected the NASA Nebraska Space Grant Consortium to receive a $34,000 grant. The award will fund four student internships with local and national aerospace companies.
The NASA Nebraska Space Grant Consortium is housed at the University of Nebraska at Omaha's (UNO) Aviation Institute. The program administers NASA scholarships and fellowships to college and university students throughout the state.
Honeybee Robotics in New York City and NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, Calif., will host one intern each. The selected students will work on robotic components for the next Mars Phoenix Lander. Local internships are being established with aerospace companies in the Bellevue, Neb., area. NASA hopes the student internship opportunities lead to retaining the best and brightest in the aerospace career field. Additionally, the grant will provide supplies and support for undergraduate senior design courses.
The NASA review panel commented on Nebraska's "strong record of placing students in ESMD-relevant positions with industry."
