2006-07 Ecoutez! Season Opens Sept. 9 with Chiara String Quartet
Omaha - The 2006-07 Ecoutez! Series at the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) will open Saturday, Sept. 9, with a performance by the Chiara String Quartet. The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Strauss Performing Arts Center Recital Hall on the UNO campus.
“Ecoutez! is committed to bringing the highest caliber of established performers and emerging artists to the metropolitan area,” said Roger Foltz, a professor of music at UNO and coordinator of the series. The word “ecoutez” is French for “listen.” KVNO Classical 90.7 FM is the media sponsor for the series.
The quartet consists of artists-in-residence at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln School of Music, where they are taking a lead in developing a groundbreaking program in music entrepreneurship. Chiara has trained at the Juilliard School and was a recipient of its Lisa Arnhold Quartet Residency.
The Chiara Quartet won first prize at the Fischoff Chamber Music Competition, and top prizes at the Premio Paolo Borciani International Competition, the Young Concert Artists International Auditions and the Astral Artistic Services Audition. They have performed in major venues like Alice Tully Hall, Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall and the American Academy in Rome. At the heart of their educational work is the belief that great live performance is the best way to connect people to music.
The remainder of the 2006-07 Ecoutez! performance schedule is as follows:
- Sunday, Oct. 8 – Heinavanker (Estonian Vocal Ensemble)
- Thursday, Feb. 8 – Trombones de Costa Rica
- Saturday, Feb. 24 – Hubert Laws (flute)
All performances will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Strauss Performing Arts Center Recital Hall. The doors will open 30 minutes prior to each concert.
