Omaha - Sheri Rogers, the 2006 recipient of the Del and Lou Ann Weber Award of Excellence at the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO), has spent her entire academic career as an advocate for education in the classroom.
Rogers, associate vice chancellor for academic and student affairs at UNO, will be recognized for her efforts Wednesday, June 7, at the university's annual service awards luncheon.
Named in honor of former UNO Chancellor Del Weber and his wife, Lou Ann, the award recognizes an individual from UNO who provides outstanding professional service at the local, regional or national level. The award includes a stipend of $2,000.
"I am honored to receive the Del and Lou Ann Weber Award of Excellence," Rogers said. "Chancellor emeritus Weber and Lou Ann's continuing contribution to the community, state and nation are legendary, and I am humbled by this recognition."
Rogers began her teaching career as an English teacher in 1981 at Decatur County Community School in Oberlin, Kan. Before coming to UNO in August of 1994, Rogers was an instructor in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. She began her career at UNO as an assistant professor of teacher education in the UNO College of Education. She was promoted to associate and then full professor status in the same department.
From 2000 to the present, Rogers has held her current position in the UNO Office of Academic and Student Affairs. Among her current duties at UNO, Rogers is responsible for the Center for ePortfolio-Based Assessment (CeBA), campus accreditation, guiding the Academic Quality Improvement Program (AQIP) task force leaders and overseeing the myMAPP (Mapping Academic Performance through ePortfolios) initiatives. She is also responsible for PK-16 initiatives, including the Dual Enrollment Program and the Omaha Public Schools/UNO Early Entry Pilot.
She has published extensively in academic journals and presented at countless conferences across the United States on her discipline. She is an active member of several UNO committees and professional organizations. Since 2001, Rogers has served as the state coordinator for the American Council on Education (ACE) Office of Women in Higher Education. From 1997 to 2003, she also was a member of the Millard Board of Education.
She received her bachelor's in English and secondary education; her master's in administration, curriculum and instruction; and a Ph.D. in administration from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
The Del and Lou Ann Weber Award of Excellence is presented annually to a current, full-time faculty member or administrator at UNO.
