Annual Honors Events Under Way at UNO
Omaha - The University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) is taking the time to recognize its own this April in conjunction with Honors Month 2006.
Three university-wide events will be spotlighted April 4-7, followed by numerous college, departmental and organizational events throughout the remainder of the month.
"Faculty, students, staff, alumni and friends of the university are encouraged to participate in the many Honors Month events taking place that showcase and celebrate faculty, student and staff achievements," said Deborah Smith-Howell, assistant vice chancellor for academic affairs at UNO.
The schedule of university-wide events is listed below. All are free and open to the public.
Honors Symposia of Senior Theses
The University Honors Program will present the annual Honors Symposia of Senior Theses Tuesday and Wednesday, April 4 and 5.
The April 4 event will begin at 5 p.m. in the Milo Bail Student Center (MBSC) Ballroom. It will feature the work of seniors Tierney Schutte, Nathan Lab, Kari Burdick-Caves, Shang-Jun Meng, Kacie Johansen, Nesrin Elsawi, Cassandra Nespor, Meghan Posey, Frances Osugi and Megan Jones.
The April 5 event will be held in two sessions – from 10 a.m. until noon and from 1 to 3 p.m. – in the MBSC Ballroom. The 10 a.m. session will feature the work of seniors Jeffrey Chalkley, Kevin Bisanz, Edward Hamilton, Rose Fredrick, Bart Vargas, Phon Nguyen, Teri Brink, Donald Green, Blake Huseman and Chelsea Majerus.
The 1 p.m. session will feature the work of seniors Anna Mulcahy, Jason Boche, Rebecca Shively, Chad Meyer, Anne Marie Robbins, Tammi Owens, Jessica Errett and James Wingert.
2006 Faculty Honors Convocation
The Faculty Honors Convocation will be held Thursday, April 6, at 7 a.m. in the MBSC Ballroom. The recipients of the university's outstanding teaching, research and creative activity, mentoring, service-learning and distinguished professorship awards will be recognized.
2006 Student Honors Convocation
The Student Honors Convocation will be held Friday, April 7, at 3 p.m. in the Strauss Performing Arts Center Recital Hall. The event recognizes outstanding undergraduate and graduate students with the presentation of a number of awards, including the graduate scholarships, the undergraduate major honorees, and deans, vice chancellor, service-learning and outstanding student athlete awards.
