UNO Education Honor Society Receives Chapter Excellence Award
Omaha - The University of Nebraska at Omaha's Eta Omega Chapter of Kappa Delta Pi (KDP), an education honor society, received an Achieving Chapter Excellence (ACE) Award at the organization's 45th Biennial Convocation in Orlando, Fla., on Nov. 3.
The ACE Awards program was established in 1995, and requires chapters to document their support of Kappa Delta Pi's mission of scholarship and excellence in education through superior programming and activities. Eta Omega's strong community involvement, outstanding leadership, strong recruitment and retention and outstanding leadership were all factors in earning the award, said Saundra Wetig, KDP counselor and assistant professor of teacher education at UNO.
"The chapter has a long history of literary projects and book drives that have benefitted area schools," Wetig said. "This semester we also initiated 62 new members, a record for us."
Only the top 10 percent of students entering the field of education are invited to become members. The Eta Omega chapter has more thn 80 active members.
Eight UNO chapter members attended the conference: Deidre Reeh, president; Brooke Wiseman Dowse, vice president; Sarah Gage, secretary; Jennifer Stark, treasurer; Katrina Coates, foundation representative; Kendal Downey, historian; and Stephanie Yowell and Victoria Ring, both active members. Reeh and Wiseman Dowse accepted the ACE Award for the chapter.
