Sept. 14 Concert to Commemorate Mexican Independence Day
Omaha - The University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) will kick off Hispanic Heritage Month activities Wednesday, Sept. 14, with México Sinfónico 2005. The concert, which commemorates Mexican Independence Day, will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Strauss Performing Arts Center Recital Hall. It is free and open to the public.
The Heartland Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Christopher Stanichar, will perform selections by Mexican composers. Jose Luis Cuevas, the Consul of Mexico, will ceremoniously close the event with El Grito de Dolores – the cry for Mexican Independence.
The concert – sponsored by the UNO Department of Music, the Office of Latino/Latin American Studies (OLLAS) and The Mexican Consulate – will be followed by a small reception. Partial funding for this event has been provided by OLLAS through the U.S. Department of Education.
