Nebraska Review Editor has Book of Poetry Published
Omaha - Neil Azevedo, one of the editors of the University of Nebraska at Omaha's (UNO) The Nebraska Revie, had his first book of poetry published by Grove Press this spring.
"A lot of poems needed to be written to get to these poems," Azevedo said. Ocean is the title of the 59-page book.
Azevedo has had poems published in The Paris Review (for which he received the Bernard F. Conners Prize), The New Criterion, Prairie Schooner and Image. In addition to his work at UNO, he also is the publisher for Zoo Press, a small literary press he created in 2001.
It took three years worth of on-and-off writing work to create the poems in Ocean, he said. The press release from Grove describes what Azevedo has created as a "shadowy world populated with dogs and snakes, suicide and children, sickness and satire, Satan and Christ . . . . ."
He said he is now working on a longer prose piece that is just starting to take form. Ocean is now on sale at local bookstores and available at online booksellers. For more information, call (402) 770-8104.
