Carlos Gonzalez Gutierrez to Deliver Keynote Address at OLLAS Conference April 22
Omaha – Carlos Gonzalez Gutierrez, executive director of the Instituto de Mexicanos en el Exterior-IME (Institute of Mexicans Abroad) will deliver the keynote address at the Second Cumbre of the Great Plains. The conference, hosted by the Office of Latino/Latin American Studies (OLLAS) at the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO), will be held April 22-24 at the Hilton Omaha. "Cumbre" is Spanish for "summit."
This year's summit – which will feature a number of national and international scholars, practitioners and activists – is titled "Re-Visioning Latino America: New Perspectives on Migration, Transnationalism and Integration."
Gutierrez Gonzalez will present "Mexico's Relations with its Diaspora: Building a Shared Agenda" Friday, April 22, at 12:40 p.m. The Honorable Jose Luis Cuevas from the Consul of Mexico in Omaha will introduce Gutierrez Gonzalez.
Gutierrez Gonzalez will be accompanied by Dr. Jose Romero of the University of Nebraska Medical Center, Nebraska's representative to the IME.
Following the keynote address, Gutierrez Gonzalez will meet with a group of community leaders and representatives of various organizations working in the Latino communities of Nebraska and Iowa at approximately 2 p.m.
He will hold a press conference at the conclusion of his meeting with the community leaders. The press is invited to attend this meeting, which will take place in the Mercer Room of the Hilton Omaha, Room 100. His visit is co-sponsored by OLLAS, the Mexican Consulate and the Institute of Mexicans Abroad.
