UNO Student Takes First Prize at Japanese Essay Contest
Omaha - University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) student Steven Bills is a first-prize winner in the University of Iowa's Japanese Essay Contest. Bills will attend the contest's awards ceremony in Iowa City, Iowa, on March 26.
"I'm very pleased because Steven competed against those who major in Japanese," said Reiko Take-Loukota, an instructor of Japanese in UNO International Studies and Programs (IS & P). "He has been a great student, and this recognition is well deserved."
The Japanese Essay Contest has classifications for both high school and college students. Bills, an undergraduate majoring in computer science, won in the College Level I category, which has a word limit of 400 to 600 characters. Bills is only in his second semester of Japanese language classes. His essay focused on akido, a Japanese martial art.
