World AIDS Day to Be Observed Dec. 1 at UNO
Omaha - The University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) will observe Wednesday, Dec. 1, as World AIDS Day with a pair of activities that are free and open to the public.
Sherry Nared from the Douglas County Health Department will discuss the effects of AIDS in the Omaha community at noon in the Milo Bail Student Center (MBSC) Dodge Room on the UNO campus. In conjunction with Nared's presentation, a variety of UNO student organizations will set up informational tables in the MBSC Dodge Room from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Student Programming Organization will provide free pizza while supplies last.
Later that evening, Carl Seaton's film "One Week" will be screened from 7 to 8 p.m. in the MBSC Nebraska Room. The film will be followed by a discussion on the AIDS epidemic. Kevin Bellew from the Douglas County Health Department will lead the discussion. Student Health Services will provide free pizza while supplies last. Free HIV testing also will be available in Student Health Services, located on the first floor of the MBSC.
The Dec. 1 events are sponsored by the UNO African American Organization, the UNO Gay and Lesbian Organization, UNO's Student Programming Organization and Student Health Services, the Nebraska AIDS Project and the Douglas County Health Department.
