More than 200 research projects created by students studying at the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) will be on display Friday, March 7, as part of UNO’s Sixth Annual Student Research and Creative Activity Fair.
From 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in UNO’s Criss Library, representatives from all six colleges at UNO and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln College of Engineering will be on hand to explain their research and/or creative activity. Topics will range from “Molecular detection of pathogens in human water sources of Lima, Peru” to "Heartland Community Flute Choir 10th Anniversary Album" to "Innovations in Rural Health Care” and “Mental Health and Violence in the Family.”
“It is a wonderful celebration of our students’ work. I am humbled by the amazing passion and intellect evidenced by the projects presented,” said Scott Snyder, associate vice chancellor for research and creative activity. “Based on the scheduled presentations, it is an honor to invite the UNO and Omaha communities to witness the scholarship of our students, who are full partners in the present and the future of research and creative activity at UNO.”
The fair, which is sponsored by UNO’s Office of Research and Creative Activity (ORCA) and the Criss Library, features students ranging from undergraduate to Ph.D., with cash awards for the best projects.
Awards will be handed out at a special ceremony, at 5 p.m., on Monday, March 10, at the W.H. Thompson Alumni Center on UNO’s Dodge Street Campus. There will be winners in the categories of poster presentations/exhibits and oral presentations/performance.
The day will consist of a morning session that runs from 9 a.m. to noon and an afternoon session from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Posters and exhibits will be on display all day in the Criss Library.
Judges for each category are members of the Omaha community and are made up of business and non-profit leaders, UNO alumni, and other friends of the University.
