Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration Planned for September at UNO

Omaha – September is Hispanic Heritage Month at the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO).  A variety of activities will be held on campus in celebration.  The schedule of events is listed below.

Wednesday, Sept. 14

-México Sinfónico

7:30 p.m.

Strauss Performing Arts Center

The Heartland Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Christopher Stanichar – assistant professor of music at UNO – will perform selections from Mexican composers to commemorate Mexico's Independence Day.  The event is free and open to the public.  Co-sponsors include the UNO Department of Music, the Office of Latino/Latin American Studies (OLLAS) and the Mexican Consulate.

Saturday, Sept. 16

-Reggaeton/Latin Hip Hop

10 p.m.

Milo Bail Student Center Ballroom

The event will feature LDA and Boy Wonder of Chosen Few Emerald Entertainment, along with Stylo and Latin Threat of Omaha's Vive Grande Entertainment.  The event is free to UNO students, and $5 for faculty/staff and the public.  Event co-sponsors are Cultural Awareness Programs, the Student Programming Organization, the Association of Latin American Students, Sigma Lambda Beta Fraternity and Vive Grande Entertainment.

-Mixer

11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Milo Bail Student Center Fireplace Lounge (first floor)

The UNO Student Programming Organization is hosting a mixer with games, snacks and fun.

Wednesday, Sept. 28

-Charla Series

12:30 p.m.

Milo Bail Student Center, third floor

The Office of Latino/Latin American Studies (OLLAS) will host a movie screening followed by an informal discussion.
