Dr. Brent Rasmussen

Brent is the President of Mortgage Specialists, LLC. Brent is an Omaha native and graduate from Ralston High School. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Small Business Management with an emphasis in Finance from the University of Nebraska at Omaha.

In addition to earning academic honors at UNO, Brent was a stand-out athlete and a two year Captain of the Mavericks Baseball Team. His senior year he was named to the NCC All-Conference team and after shortly after was picked up as a free agent with the Kansas City Royals.

Three years after his last athletic stint for the Gulf Coast Royals, Brent stopped to help a stranded motorist and was hit by another vehicle on Interstate 80. This accident left him hospitalized for 1 month and bed ridden for 5 months with an amputated left foot, a shattered right ankle and a 16” rod in his right femur.

Brent returned to work in August of 2002 and in the following April received a call from a good friend at the University of Nebraska at Omaha that someone was trying to get in contact with him to introduce wheelchair softball. One practice later he joined the Nebraska Barons and one month later was in Sports Illustrated in Faces in the Crowd for receiving MVP in his very first tournament by hitting .916 with 2 homeruns, 5 doubles and 6 intentional walks.

This was a new start to his new athletic endeavors he never expected. That year Brent went on to break every record at the 2003 National Wheelchair Softball Tournament from homeruns, intentional walks and doubles to on base percentage.

This recognition was noted by many players that played on the US Sitting Volleyball Team. One current player asked him to a tryout and from there Brent went on to help the U.S. to a 1 st Place finish in the Pan American Games in 2003 which earned the team an automatic bid to the 2004 Paralympics in Athens, Greece. As Co-Captain Brent led the U.S. to a 6 th place finish, the best ever finish in United States Sitting Volleyball history. The U.S. also finished 9 th overall at the World Championships held in Roermond, the Netherlands, which also is the best ever finish for the United States. Since Athens, Brent has been training with the U.S. Team in Edmund, OK monthly and continues to play Wheelchair Softball and Basketball. He has also helped start local club teams and tournaments across the U.S. He organized the 1 st Club tournament in the United States on April 1 st of 2005 in which he has doubled the attendance every year. He has also helped the national team bring in new players that have helped them to become much better. You can see more of this action at www.sittingvolleyball.org.
