Welcome to the UNO Department of Music
The Department of Music is one of five academic units within the College of Communication, Fine Arts and Media. We are located in the Janet A. and Willis S. Strauss Performing Arts Center, which is next to the focal point of the campus, a campanile that has a carillon of forty-seven bells. The Strauss PAC has a tunable recital hall which seats 474, impressive acoustic isolation, and well-equipped classrooms and rehearsal spaces. The Strauss PAC serves as a center of musical activity for the university and the city of Omaha.
The University of Nebraska at Omaha Department of Music has an active performance and event schedule. For a list of events and concerts of the UNO Department of Music, visit our Events page.
The recital hall, rehearsal spaces and classrooms in the Strauss Performing Arts Center are available for rental to groups within and outside the university. Please contact our Reservation Coordinator and Building Manager, Jenn Walcutt, as early as possible for reservations as reservations are confirmed on a first come, first served basis.
The Department of Music has a faculty of 45 full and part time members and is a fully accredited member of the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM). The department enrolls nearly 200 undergraduate and graduate students each year. Degrees offered include the Bachelor of Music degree with concentrations in composition, performance, music education and music technology and the Master of Music degree with concentrations in conducting, performance and education. More information about the Department of Music's academic programs is available here.
