2012 UNO Jazz Combo Tour of China
In 2012 the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) Jazz Combo under the direction of Dr. Pete Madsen and Mr. Darren Petit, was invited to Xi'an, China. During this tour, which took place in April, the ensemble represented the University of Nebraska (UN) at the grand opening of the UN sponsored American Exchange Center (AEC) at Xi'an's Jiaotong University (XJTU). The center is an NU-wide initiative that aims to expose Chinese students and faculty to United States history, law, medicine, art, culture and government. It is also designed to strengthen Nebraska's collaboration with China. While in China the UNO Jazz Combo presented a number of performances and workshops as part of the grand opening festivities, including shared concerts with XJTU student musicians.
The tour also included a visit to Beijing, where the students had the opportunity to see some of China's most significant landmarks including the Great Wall of China, the Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square, and the Terra Cotta Warriors.
