Ken Yoshida has been Principal Percussionist for the Omaha Symphony since 1989. A native of San Francisco, Ken studied percussion at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and later at the Cleveland Institute of Music. His teachers include Tom Hemphill (San Francisco Symphony), Richard Weiner (Cleveland Orchestra, and Charles Owen (Philadelphia Orchestra). Orchestral experience includes performing with the Cleveland Orchestra and the Mexico City Philharmonic. The list of conductors he has worked under include Lorin Maazel, Leonard Slatkin, and Eduardo Mata. As a percussionist, Ken has spent the past 30 years collecting vintage percussion instruments large and small, some instruments dating back to the 1920's. He uses many of these restored instruments in his performances with the Omaha Symphony.
