Mark received his Bachelors of Arts degree in music and education from Midland Lutheran College and a Masters of Music degree in piano performance from the University of Nebraska at Omaha where his principal teachers were James Johnson and Kenton Bales. He completed extensive work in piano and jazz studies at the University of North Texas where his principal teachers were Dan Haerle, Jim Riggs, Paris Rutherford, and Berthe Odnoposoff. In addition to his position at UNO, he is a vocal music teacher with the Omaha Public School system, and maintains a private studio. His students are successful, winning local, state, and regional competitions as well as professional performance situations. As a composer and arranger, his works have been performed by the Nebraska Jazz Orchestra, the University of North Texas Two O'clock Lab band, and the Dana/Midland college jazz ensemble.
