Percussion Auditions
Percussion Auditions will be held August 13-17.
Here is the music for large auditions for the fall. Every student who is in lessons must take this audition. Each of the excerpts is marked for the measures you are required to play.
Each of these excerpts comes from a larger well-established piece of music (which is marked on the music). Learning the notes is only part of a successful audition. You should understand the music (find score and at least one recording) and perform it well in context. There are wrong tempos, both too slow and too fast.
These auditions determine your placement in your large ensemble. I will ask each of you your preference, but that will only be considered against how strong you performed. If you have a class conflict, I need to know about that by August 1st. If you tell me later than that day, it will not have any consideration. Work conflicts are not considered in deliberation.
In the past, people have come in and tried to read down excerpts…. Unprepared or unsatisfactory auditions will simply be dismissed. If you are a freshmen, more leeway will be given to you, please prepare as best you can.
