Jazz

The award-winning Jazz Ensembles continue to receive acclaim for their outstanding musical performances from internationally recognized jazz artists, clinicians, and adjudicators. In addition to hosting the annual UNO Great Plains Jazz Festival, the ensemble makes regular appearances at internationally recognized jazz festivals and at state and regional conferences.

The Jazz Ensemble toured the Baltic States in June of 2003 including invited performances at the Klaipeda International Jazz Festival in Lithuania and the Tabasalu International Big Band Festival in Estonia. The festivals featured professional jazz musicians from around the world and attracted an audience of 45,000 people over a three-day period. The Jazz Ensemble/Combo has also been selected by competitive taped auditions to perform at the Notre Dame Jazz Festival (2006), the University of North Texas Jazz Festival (2005 and 2006), the Midwest Regional International Association for Jazz Education Conference in Chicago (2005), the Nebraska Music Educators Association Conference (2003), and the Nebraska State Bandmasters Association Convention (2002). The ensemble also regularly performs at the Wichita and Northern Colorado / Greeley Jazz Festivals. Jazz Ensemble I and II are open to all university students by audition.
