Composition Studies

The Music Composition program is an optional concentration of the Music Performance major. Following the successful completion of two years of theory study, students wishing to pursue the concentration in composition can begin private composition lessons with a faculty composer. This private instruction allows the student to learn the craft of musical composition by merging personal talents and interests within the context of traditional compositional forms and styles. Students works have been performed by the university ensembles, soloists and chamber groups. Several award-winning faculty members compose and arrange in a wide variety of idioms including choral music, music for large ensembles, jazz, and computer music.
