Facilitated Study Groups

Facilitated Study Groups provide a dynamic opportunity for students to review course material, solve problems, and gain an understanding of course concepts in weekly meetings of 6-10 students led by a peer facilitator who has already successfully completed the course. The meetings are not group tutor sessions; instead, peer leaders facilitate interaction among the group to engage all the members, encouraging them to teach and learn from each other. Study Group membership is voluntary, but members are expected to attend regularly and participate actively. In contrast to SI, Facilitated Study Groups target only the interested students of a particular course, are offered for a wider selection of courses and have reduced requirements of the peer leader.

How?

Scroll down to find the course(s) for which you would like join afacilitated study group. If a FSG is already formed for the couse, simply email the peer-leader by clicking their name. If a FSG has yet to form for the course (or if it is full), click the course name to provide your email and availibility. When asked for your name, please use your preferred email address. New study groups will be added once there are at least 6 interested students available at the same time. Check back as often as you like but we'll let you know that a new group is forming via the email you provide. New FSG's can begin at anytime during the semester, though most begin around week 3 or 4. Encourage your classmates to sign up - you can email everyone in your class from blackboard.

Email Dr. Richter-Egger if you have questions.
