nonprofit concentration - mpa degree plan

Thirteen courses (39 graduate credit hours) are required for the MPA degree. Students complete the program by first taking the beginning core courses, then taking specialization courses. As students complete their concentration courses, they complete the ending core courses.

Beginning Core (12 credits):

PA 8050 Public Administration and Democracy
PA 8010 The Public Economy
PA 8090 Seminar in Organization Theory & Behavior
PA 8120 Research Methods or equivalent (POLS 800 at UNL)

Ending Core (9 credits):

PA 8300 Policy Design and Implementation
PA 8440 Organizational Development or PA 8530 Strategic Planning and Management
PA 8320 Policy Evaluation or PA 8450 Advanced Management Analysis

Concentration (18 credits or 15 Credits with Captone Project):

*Note: PA 8596, Techniques and Topics in Nonprofi t Management, may be taken twice for credit (3 credits each time) if the content of the two semesters is different.

Other courses from other fields of study where nonprofit organizations are active may be included for elective credits. Examples include health specialization courses, courses in fine arts administration, museum studies, and social work. Check with your advisor to determine if a class offered outside the department can be included in your degree program.
