Finishing Up the Semester
If you're working on an end-of-semester assignment or project, you'll need a basic set of tools to get the job done. A laptop computer, plenty of coffee, Mountain Dew, i-Pod, comfortable surroundings, paint brushes and good friends are essential ingredients for the tasks.
Growing up on a farm in Randolph, Nebraska, Sheila Korth found out firsthand you need to literally dig in to make things happen. Surrounded by corn, soybeans, alfalfa and livestock, she learned a lot about the family farm. That knowledge has had an impact on her decision for a major and a career.
"When I came to Omaha, I didn't know exactly what I wanted to study," she says. "I like computers. I like business. And I want to help my community."
Now a UNO senior, she's working on two degrees — in Management Information Systems and in Economics — and focused on a career in agriculture policy or development. "Getting information quickly and being proficient at business is important for farmers, not only locally, but around the world," she says. "I think MIS is an important part of the future."
In just three years, the Walter Scott Scholarship recipient has dug into lots of opportunities related to her majors. ...continue
