"We, the brothers of Kappa Kappa Psi, believe that service to the college or university band program fosters responsibility, loyalty and leadership; that a spirit of brotherhood is enhanced by the participation in a band program; that music is a universal language and truly the greatest of the arts; and that, through fraternal participation, each member will strive for the highest."

First of all, what the heck is Kappa Kappa Psi?
Kappa Kappa Psi is a national, honorary, coed band service fraternity.

And that means…?
That means it’s an organization dedicated to the betterment of the college and university band program. In other words, it’s a fraternity for people who love band and want to ensure its success. We believe it is an honor to be selected to serve.

OK, so you guys like band. What exactly do you do?
Lots of things! We:

  1. Provide apples for the marching band at home games
  2. Clean practice rooms (ask someone about ‘Project Baldy’)
  3. Repaint and repair music stands (‘Operation Black Widow’)
  4. Set up chairs and stands for ensembles (ever wonder how the stuff gets there before you do?)
  5. Do other projects as needed (organ loft cleaning, moving equipment, working registration tables at festivals, etc.)

Of course, it is not only Kappa Kappa Psi members who do things like setting up and working festivals, but we do comprise a large part of those task forces.

So the main focus of Kappa Kappa Psi is to serve the band… Do you guys ever do anything for fun?
Well, yes. Aside from the great enjoyment derived from helping make the band successful, there is an acute sense of belonging—fraternal brotherhood, if you will—that comes with being a member. We embrace this as well, fielding Homecoming royalty candidates and having a formal dinner and dance in the Spring… we’ve also been known to congregate at Old Chicago just to relax and hang out.

I don't even know what a Kappa Iotian looks like.
