John S. Schultes

John Siddhartha Schultes currently is a second year graduate student pursuing a Master of Theological Studies at Vanderbilt Divinity School. He attended Iowa State University, graduating with a BA in Art & Design and Religious Studies (double major). In 2001 he became involved in the American Academy of Religion, on the advice of a professor and attended several meetings and conferences, eventually publishing his first paper in the University of Nebraska at Omaha's Journal of Religion & Film.

He was born in 1978 in Boston, Massachusetts. At the age of five his family moved to the Quad Cities in Iowa. He grew up in Bettendorf, attending elementary school and then Junior High and High School. In Jr. High John's interest in the study of religion was kindled, and continued to throughout High School. His family moved again to Cedar Rapids, where he graduated from Regis Catholic School in 1997.

In late 1995 he was awarded the Eagle Scout rank from Troop 8. During his time in the Scouts he also became a Brotherhood member of the Order of the Arrow. He participated in many activities including cross country, track, soccer, drama, band, choir, contest speech (All-State two years), and many more. From 2002 to 2005 he worked in the Quad Cities as a stocking clerk and did other factory and odd jobs. Finally in Fall 2005 he moved to Tennessee to pursue a graduate degree.

His interests include the study of early Christianity, comparative religion, media & film, computer gaming, and science fiction as well as the outdoors and backpacking. He has two younger siblings who attend Iowa State University.
