James L. Ford

James (Jay) Ford is an Associate Professor in the Department of Religion at Wake Forest University where he teaches courses relating to East Asian religions. He earned his Ph.D. in 1998 from the Department of Religion of Princeton University.

His research focuses particularly on medieval Japanese Buddhism and he has a book forthcoming from Oxford University Press titled Jōkei and Devotional Buddhism in Early Medieval Japan.

Jay serves as Executive Secretary for the Society for the Study of Japanese Religion (SSJR) and is co-chair of the Japanese Religions Groups within the American Academy of Religion.
