Prof. King grew up in Tucson, Arizona, where he also obtained BA and MA degrees from the University of Arizona. He obtained his Ph.D. in Roman History from the University of Chicago in 1998, and taught both for Chicago and for the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma before coming to UNO in the autumn of 2000. He has published articles on the history of the Huns (“The Veracity of Ammianus Marcellinus’ Description of the Huns,” American Journal of Ancient History 12 [1995]: 77-95), as well as on the Roman religion (“The Organization of Roman Religious Beliefs,” Classical Antiquity 22.2 [2003]: 275-312). He is currently completing a book-length study of Roman worship of the manes entitled The Ancient Roman Afterlife: Beliefs and Variations in the Cult of the Dead. He also has several publications that reflect his long-time interest (both scholarly and recreational) in cinema.
