Barry Commoner's "Laws of Ecology"

1. Everything is Connected to Everything Else. There is one earth for all living creatures and what affects an individual, affects all others.

2. Everything Goes Somewhere. There is no "away" to throw things.

3. Nature Knows Best. Humans changing a natural system is not likely to benefit that system.

4. There Is No Such Thing as a Free Lunch. In nature, for every gain there is a cost, and all debts must be eventually paid.
