Recommendations from Committee C and the Graduate Council
Recommendations:
The library join the “Networked Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations” in order to help them keep current in a changing environment.
The library would require the same type, number and level of submission as currently mandated, with the addition of a digital copy. This would allow the library to run parallel systems until such time as their confidence levels mandated change.
Delegate to the library to define “What the format, specifications and composition and submission means are for a digital copy”.
Allow the library to set fees to cover the costs of the new submission medium.
The thesis/dissertation authors will define the level of access to the digital network. As understood (by the committee), the digital network has the option of three levels of access:
World Wide Distribution
UNO Distribution only/University of Nebraska Distribution only
Restricted Access - In cases where patents or other discipline publication guidelines are restrictive, access may be held for a period of one year at which time it will be moved to the second level.
A committee should be formed to work out details concerning submission criteria, funding, etc. The committee should be formed from each of the participating areas: faculty, administration, library personnel and graduate students.
Of Note:
The Graduate Dean should explore the idea of obtaining funding from the Alumni Association for any submission fees that could be onerous to individuals.
