INSTRUCTIONS FOR GRADUATE FACULTY NOMINATION FORMS
- CHECKLIST
Before submitting a nomination for Graduate Faculty, each nominator should be satisfied the candidate is fully qualified according to the criteria of the fourth page of the form.
To facilitate the process, please be certain the following are completed before submission of the Graduate Faculty nomination:
- All of the questions on the nomination form have been answered.
- The departmental/school Voting Sheet has been completed. A two-thirds majority of the program's faculty must support the nomination in order for it to be forwarded. For faculty in departments/schools without graduate programs or in departments/schools with graduate programs with fewer than six Graduate Faculty, or for interdepartmental programs, a special ad-hoc 6-person review committee of Graduate Faculty will be appointed by the campus Dean for Graduate Studies from names submitted by the nominator. A two-thirds majority is required to forward the nomination.
- A letter fom the Graduate Program Committee Chair (or ad-hoc committee chair) interpreting the vote of the department/school Graduate Faculty or ad hoc committee and explaining the significance of the nominee's research/creative activity as it relates to the discipline & the reasons for supporting the nomination.
- A vita has been attached.
- In the case of co-authored publications, the percentage of the nominee's contributions have been indicated.
- All publications have been indicated with full citation, including page numbers and whether "refereed" or "not refereed".
- The signatures of the following persons have been obtained:
- Nominee
- Nominator
- Graduate Program Committee Chairperson
- Nominee's Department Chair/School Director
- Nominee's Dean
A copy of each of the nominee's publications is not required; however, it should be available to the Dean for Graduate Studies if additional information is necessary.
- GRADUATE FACULTY NOMINATIONS ARE PROCESSED AS FOLLOWS:
- After the nomination is received in the Graduate Studies Office, it is given to the Dean for Graduate Studies for review and approval.
- If the nomination is approved by the Dean for Graduate Studies, it is forwarded to the Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs, who is the university-wide Graduate Dean.
- If the university-wide Graduate Dean approves the nomination, letters will be sent to the nominee, with copies to the nominator, the Graduate Program Committee Chair, the Department Chair/School Director, and the cognizant Dean.
- If a nomination is deferred at any level, it will be handled on an individual basis with the correspondence channeled through the UNO Graduate Dean. If a nominee wishes to appeal a decision to defer the nomination, he/she should contact the UNO Graduate Dean for the appeal procedures (Section II.E. of the Governance Document).
