John F. Shroder, Jr.Jack Shroder

With a 36-year history of studies on Afghanistan and as a co-founder of the Afghanistan Studies Center at the University of Nebraska at Omaha, Jack Shroder has maintained a research program on an Atlas of Afghanistan since the 1970s.  In addition, since the outbreak of hostilities in Afghanistan in the 1980s that continues to the present time, Jack has also maintained a research program on neighboring Pakistan.  A specialist on the geology, geomorphology and general physical geography of the high mountains and arid lowlands of these politically difficult and often violent countries, his detailed knowledge of the terrain has led to an extensive list of funded projects and publications over the past three and a half decades.  With more than 100 professional papers and numerous books on South Asia and other topics to his credit, Dr. Shroder maintains a schedule of extensive travel, teaching, publication and grants that contribute to the GLIMS (Global Land Ice Measurements from Space) Project.
Jack is a college graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree in geology from Union College in Schenectady, NY, with a Masters degree in geology from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst and a Ph.D. in geology with a minor in geography from the University of Utah in Salt Lake City.  Recipient of numerous honors and awards for his work, Dr. Jack Shroder is extensively involved in service to his disciplines and profession that directly or indirectly aid the GLIMS Project and the University of Nebraska at Omaha..
