Foreign Languages Honor Societies

French: π Δ Φ

The French National Honor Society, Pi Delta Phi, has an active chapter at UNO. Pi Delta Phi:

  • Recognizes outstanding scholarship in French language and literature, and
  • Works to increase the knowledge and appreciation of the French contribution to world culture.

To be eligible for membership in Pi Delta Phi, one must:

  • have completed one upper division course in French (3000+ level);
  • maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.8;
  • maintain a GPA of 3.0 in French.

German: Δ Φ Α

The German National Honor Society, Delta Phi Alpha, has an active chapter at UNO. Delta Phi Alpha:

  • Recognizes outstanding scholarship in German language and literature, and
  • Works to increase the knowledge and appreciation of the German contribution to world culture.

To be eligible for membership in Delta Phi Alpha, one must:

  • have a minimum of two years of University German or equivalent with the attainment of sophomore standing, including the completion of at least one upper division course in German (above 2120) at the University of Nebraska at Omaha;
  • maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.75;
  • maintain a GPA of 3.3 in German.

Members are eligible for local and national scholarships. In addition, through the Göethe Institute Testing Center UNO students may take the internationally recognized German language proficiency examinations: Zertifikat Deutsch and Zentrale Mittelstufenprüfung. Spanish: Σ Δ π

The Spanish National Honor Society, Sigma Delta Pi, has an active chapter at UNO. Sigma Delta Pi:

  • Recognizes outstanding scholarship in Spanish language and literature, and
  • Works to increase the knowledge and appreciation of the Spanish contribution to world culture.

To be eligible for membership in Sigma Delta Pi, one must:

  • have completed one upper division course in Spanish or Latin American Civilization or Literature (3000+ level);
  • maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.8;
  • maintain a GPA of 3.0 in Spanish.
