The
UNO Art Gallery is located on the first floor of the Del &
Lou Ann Weber Fine Arts Building designed by Hardy Holzman Pfeiffer
Associates LLP of New York. Opened in 1992, its professional
exhibition spaces consist of two large galleries (1,500 square
feet) and a Hexagon gallery (675 square feet) plus adjoining
offices, a kitchen, and a storage facility.
The
UNO Art Gallery presents contemporary art (made in the last
20 years) by artists with regional and national reputations.
These exhibitions expose students to the diversity and vitality
of contemporary visual culture and support the educational mission
of the Department of Art & Art History. In addition to a
bi-annual exhibition of work by UNO Art Faculty, the Gallery’s
annual schedule includes BFA Thesis Exhibitions at the end of
the fall and spring semesters and Juried Student Shows with
prizes awarded by a noted regional artist or arts professional.
Opening receptions, which are held for every exhibition, are
free and open to all visitors.
The
UNO Art Gallery also hosts a variety of events (lectures, gallery
talks, tours, and other programs) that supplement exhibitions.
Along with Gallery openings, these events nurture and sustain
the social, creative, and intellectual life of the department
as well as provide opportunities to meet members and supporters
of the Omaha art community. The Gallery is also used frequently
as a space to present lectures and performances by other areas
of the College of Communication, Fine Arts and Media as well
as other UNO academic departments and organizations. Unless
otherwise noted, these events are free and open to the public.
