Trash to Treasure: A Lesson in Ecology

Artist Bart Vargas talked to us about his use of recycled materials in his art. His discussion of the environmental impact of plastic bottles inspired participants to think about global environmental issues.

Groups chose animals, insects or birds impacted by global environmental issues. They created sculptures of the animals out of recycled electronic and other materials as well as natural materials. They researched the animals to understand how they have been affected by environmental issues.

Bears have been affected by human use of their habitat and the attraction of human trash.

Bees have been affected by colony collapse perhaps caused by humans.

Groups presented their sculpture and information through a dramatic performance. This group dealt with the death of frogs from environmental causes.
