The prevention of, and the imposition of sanctions upon those who resort to, plagiarism is necessary in any university that espouses the ideals embodied in the concept of academic freedom. Plagiarism is the appropriation of the work (be they ideas or words) of another without crediting the source. Such a practice is particularly reprehensible in a community dedicated to the pursuit and advancement of knowledg.
Plagiarism by Faculty. The investigation of allegations of plagiarism by a faculty member shall be the responsibility of the Academic Freedom and Tenure Committee.
Plagiarism by Students. The investigation of allegations of plagiarism by a student or appeals therefrom shall be investigated by the appropriate college-level appeals committee. Appeals from college-level committees are considered by the University Committee on Academic Standards. (Student Affairs - Policies)
