The entire activity of the CASTL institute is devoted to mentoring improvements in the scholarship of teaching and learning. The UNO project at the Institute, “How can five disciplines use assessment to improve civic engagement outcomes of Service Learning?” addresses facilitation of interdisciplinary collaboration. The UNO CASTL Scholar/Presenter Team was featured in a 75-minute mentoring session. During that session, each Carnegie Scholar of the UNO team presented her project to a small audience of colleagues, including a Mentor (an experienced national Carnegie Scholar), three fellow CASTL Scholar/Presenters, and 15-20 other Institute participants. After the Team presentation, the Mentor led a process of dialogue with the audience. As Carnegie Scholars, the UNO Team also participated in three other CASTL Scholar sessions and offered constructive feedback and suggestions to the presenters.

For the next three years, Creighton University in Omaha will host the CASTL conference. UNO CASTL 2007 Team members will be available to colleagues to answer questions about participation, or about how to prepare proposals for participation in this valuable learning opportunity.
