We have scheduled three additional General Education Facilitated Conversations for faculty and professional staff. Please encourage faculty and professional staff who have not participated in one of these conversations to attend. Participants can register at the General Education website http://gened.unomaha.edu/
Additional information about UNO's review of general education and the General Education Task Force is also available at the site. The dates and times for the conversations are:
As you all know, a UNO Task Force on General Education review was formed and charged by Interim Chancellor Christensen this past fall to facilitate and organize a process for review of UNO's general education program. More information about the Task Force and its membership is available at: http://gened.unomaha.edu
Perhaps the most important part of our general education review began February 2, 2007 when we launched a series of computer-assisted facilitated campus conversations designed to elicit what UNO faculty, staff, students, and community believe are the fundamental skills and knowledge that all UNO students should have upon graduation. The Task Force is indebted to UNO's new Institute for Collaboration Science for their work in allowing us to conduct these computer-assisted, facilitated brainstorming sessions.
18 facilitated conversations were conducted Friday, February 2nd and through Wednesday, February 28th with over 130 faculty and professional staff participating. Each session will be limited to 16 participants. Participants may register at the GenEd website http://gened.unomaha.edu. If seats are available in addition to the registered participants, drop-ins will be welcome. All sessions will be conducted in the MBSC.
Beginning in April, we will conduct facilitated conversations with current UNO students to receive their feedback. In May, we will conduct community conversations.
For more information on the process, results of the conversations, and next steps please visit the UNO General Education website http://gened.unomaha.edu or the Task Force co-chairs Deborah Smith-Howell, Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs (dsmith-howell@mail.unomaha.edu and 554-4849) or Shelton Hendricks, Dean College of Arts and Sciences (shendricks@mail.unomaha.edu and 554-2338).
